The Magic of Muotka Wilderness LoIs a five night holiday in a log cabin alongside Kiilopää fjell in a remote part of Sapmi (Lapland) where spruce gives way to pine and where there is nothing to scar the nocturnal darkness so you have as good a chance as it gets of seeing the Northern Lights. And during the day exploring and generally having shed loads of fun in the vast untouched wilderness by snowmobile, husky or reindeer in the traditional ‘caravan’ manner of old. On one afternoon of your stay you’ll get to tuck in to a Pannukakku fried in a paistinpannu over an open fire in a a turf roofed hut.
There are two cabin types known as Log and Wilderness: 18 of the former and 8 of the latter, the principle difference being size rather than amenity. Log cabins which share a common porch/entrance are a tad bigger than Wilderness ones (44 m2 versus 30m2) and all are no more than 500 metres form the Fjell Centre. Log cabins comfortably sleep 4 in a separate bedroom & sofa bed in the living room which has a dining table , open fireplace, TV and kitchen area with a fridge, electric stove, microwave oven & coffee machine, WC, electric sauna/shower and a clothes drying cabinet. Wilderness cabins sleep 4 in a more compact space with one large open plan room, two bunk beds, TV, kitchen area with a fridge, electric stove, microwave oven & coffee machine, WC, electric sauna/shower and a clothes drying cabinet. Bed linen, towels and ample cutlery & crockery are provided, as is final cleaning.
fly via Helsinki to Ivalo in Finnish Lapland, transfer to the Kiilopää Fjell Center and check in to your cabin. Welcome supper in Restaurant Kammi.
Take breakfast and then take off on your chosen safari for the day. You can snowmobile in the morning, afternoon or evening in search of the Aurora, and include ice fishing or a visit to Armi Palanoja’s reindeer corral. You can try our reindeer safari is in a train or ‘raito’ with individual deer pulling a sledge and tethered to each other with a leash; the time honoured way the Sami travelled between grazing grounds and a ‘can’t hear a pin drop’ way of watching the snowscape drift by. If you want to go husky mushing you'll be taken to a local husky kennels where the dogs all have their own names, character and little kennel houses spaced out in a forest clearing. The musher will show you how to balance on the sled, use the brake, steer and generally handle your own dog team. And during your time with the head musher he’ll explain the role of the lead, swing, team and wheel dogs, and their training. And of course you can snow shoe or ski either with a guide or on your own. But the really fun thing here is geocaching by snow shoe – a sort of web based treasure hunt which makes the snow shoeing on the fjell that much more fun. See our blog for what geocaching is all about.

Guide prices are in part based on our mid-level contract air fares which are veriable in real time unlike our ground supplier contract costs which are generally fixed. We don’t do fancy lead in prices and the time you confirm your booking always use the lowest air fare available. This may mean the confirmed price of your holiday being slightly less or more than the guide price in which case a proportionate reduction-supplement will apply. Carpe Diem = the earlier you book the better, especially for public & school holidays.
