Your Adventure

A 4 day Holiday with an evening watching and photographing wild brown bear, wolverine and wild deer in their natural environment: the pine and spruce arboreal forest of Kuhmo on the Russian border. Plus the optional chance to safari for sightings of Elk and wild forest reindeer, a cousin of the Canadian boreal woodland caribou, who migrate along the Finnish Russian border.

What’s Special

The chance to see predators in their natural environment and, in the case of the wild forest reindeer, perhaps your last, given the specie is on the edge of extinction from hunting and habitat destruction by foresters. Whether you’re a photographer, wildlife enthusiast or just a bear nut, this is a unique chance to get up close and personal with predators.

Hotel Kalevala

Named after Finland’s epic, a sort of Finnish Beowulf, the Kalevala is an extraordinary building with a cantilevered roof almost perched over the edge of Lake Lammasjärvi echoing both the surrounding Taiga and the cultural heritage the Kalevala celebrates. Classic twin rooms are a comfortable 21m2 with TV, mini bar and shower/WC. The restaurant overlooking the lake focuses on trad dishes such as wild boar filet and smoked reindeer paired with such ingredients as angelica, nettles and tar (sic) which supposedly have therapeutic qualities but taste good anyway!
