Your Adventure

is a holiday for you and your children (and perhaps even your children’s children), with a few days in Tove Jansson’s kingdom of innocence set alongside the exquisite Turku archipelago. In Moominworld you’ll meet Moominmamma, Moominpappa and their son Moomintroll; he’s besties with Snorkmaiden who is besties with Little My who have an afternoon picnic together every day in front of the Moominhouse. You’ll also meet Snufkin, Hemulen, Stinky and the Witch who’s really a harmless old biddy and whose granddaughter is Alice.

The Retro Holiday

pretty much everything here is as retro as it gets: the Naantalli Spa Hotel where you’ll stay is a Finnish take on Dirty Dancing's Kellerman's – beyond the columnar marbled entrance to the hotel you half expect to see Baby; the old town part of Naantali is a huddle of narrow lanes, pastel coloured clapboard houses; terrace cafes alongside the water’s edge, and dominating the townscape is the copper clad spire on the medieval church from the Brigittine convent on which the town was founded. And the local news is spread every evening before Vespers not by Twitter but by the Trumputtaja, a sort of Finnish Town Crier.

Naantali Spa Hotel

Reminiscent of another age this ‘back to the future’ Sunborn resort hotel in its swallows and amazons setting, bound by the forest and the sea is something from another time. Centre stage is the heated outdoor pool in the spa complex alongside which is a traditional whirlpool bath, recreational pool with massaging water & air jets and Roman whirlpool baths. There are restaurants (5) and bars (4) all over the place including TK’s with a children’s menu with dishes starting at not much more than a fiver and scoops of ice cream to top on to apple pie and Café Roma (no we don’t know why) which has sandwiches to go, pastries, cake and all sorts of child face smearing chocolate goodies. Ravintola Soliel turns out Scandi style specialities sometimes with an asian fushion twist and is where you take breakfast. The Moomin themed double rooms (32 m²) on the 3rd floor come with a balcony, parquet floor, TV, Wi-Fi, kettle, mini bar, telephone, shower, bathrobes for all and hair dryer. There aren't very many of them but in the alternative there are exact same rooms minus the balcony and the Moomin theming.

And of course there’s Theatre Emma, Story Path, Hemulen’s House and the swimming beach.
