All Our Finnish Portfolio Adventures

Your Adventure

A long weekend holiday exploring no less than three beautiful Scandinavian capitals: Stockholm with its medieval Old Town and beyond chic restaurants; Tallinn the chocolate box hanseatic capital of Estonia, and Helsinki where Russian and Finnish influences merge. Linking the weekend together are an overnight cruise between Stockholm and Tallinn and a short high speed one from there to Helsinki.Enjoy.

What’s Special

The Baltic and Scandinavian capitals literally spring to life in the summer months and there’s probably nowhere else in the world where cities are linked by sea routes joining up the parts others can’t reach. Go to sleep in one city and wake up in another; take Fika in Gamla Stan and drink mead in Tallinn; wander a medieval courtyard in Tallinn and an elegant boulevard in Helsinki. We know everywhere like the back of our hand which know how we use to make certain you have the best of times by giving you a detailed timed itinerary and a personal viva briefing on the ‘must sees’ in each city.

Elite Plaza

on Birger Jarlsgatan just across from Humlegården and close to Stureplan the Elite Plaza is an eclectic design mix of original 19th century features and classy contemporary ones. Fabrics and furnishing in all the rooms have a snazzy feel to them pairing cerise and grey, primrose yellow and beige, turqoise and walnut. The bathrooms have vessels sinks, designer tiling and wet showers. There are 5 room categories with the standard category all being on the second floor and having double beds, private WC/shower, mini bar, hairdryer, safe, bathrobes & Penhaligon toiletries.

Hotel Torni

The domed ceiling and art deco inlaid wood panelling in the Torni’s reception speaks of something special. Once Finland’s tallest building the Ateljee Bar at the top of the building’s tower has the best views of Helsinki as do the loos which have outside glass walls. The rooms take you back to twenties elegance with tile stoves, wood flooring, claw feet bathtubs, all mod cons and are furnished in either art deco style or national romantic style. Twin rooms come in Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles with private WC/shower, TV, mini bar, tea/coffee tray. Not quite up to the Seurahuone on the pillows front, none the less each bed has 3 sizes and a memory foam mattress that adapts to your body based on your body heat and weight. Unmissable from Mannerheimintie Street, the Torni couldn’t be better placed for a short stay.

The Three Sisters Hotel

Created from three adjoining medieval buildings the hotel has the look & feel of a rustic but nonetheless luxurious little inn with exposed brickwork showing through pale yellow plaster, twisty spiral staircases and no two doors the same size. Relais & Chateau have done the interior up superbly blending original features with their swanky, contemporary design theme. Every room is different but here’s an example: a poster bed on the left, a wardrobe and work table on the right, and a sitting area with comfy sofas, coffee table and TV set. Wood beams, pillars and rough plaster-work with windows opening on to an inner courtyard. The bathroom was of decent size, had WC, two sinks (his and hers) with a cute looking bathtub.

1st Day UK – Stockholm

fly scheduled airline to the Swedish capital Stockholm and transfer to the City Center and your hotel. Once described by author Selma Lagerlöf as floating on water, the city with its intricate lattice of canals, Hanseatic buildings piled up on Gamla Stan, futuristic Eriksson Globe and every architectural style in between, is Scandi perfect. Overnight at the Elite Plaza.

2nd Day Stockholm-Overnight to Tallinn

take the bulk of the day to explore the city. The Old Town is a must see as is the Vasa warship museum for a dose of maritime culture and Vetakatten for the cinnamon bun to end all cinnamon buns. If you need some retail therapy Ostermalm is designer label country and Södermalm the Camden Market of Stockholm. In the late afternoon board the MS Baltic Queen and sail out through the 24.000 island archipelago on passage to Tallinn. Overnight in a deck 5,8 or 9 outside A-class cabin with buffet supper.

3rd Day Tallinn

after breakfast on board you dock at 10 in the morning and take the short walk or taxi to your hotel in the Old Town. Elegantly restored from its Soviet era dereliction, this one time Hanseatic Port is a jumble of medieval walls, turrets, spires, winding cobbled streets all imperiously overlooked by Toompea Castle and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral with numerous cafes and bars nestling in side streets. Overnight at the Three Sisters Hotel.

4th Day Tallinn-Helsinki

after breakfast whisk on a high speed ferry across the Gulf of Finland in just 2 hours and self-transfer to your hotel. Helsinki is an eclectic mix of east and west set on a peninsula jutting out into the Gulf : a neo-classical gem with an art nouveau quarter laced through with Alvar Aalto's spectacular modern architecture; smart pavement cafés on Esplanade; gourmet restaurants like the legendary Savoy; an edgy design district; and retail therapy for iconic design brands like Arabia and Iittala. Overnight at Hotel Torni.
