a long weekend in the heart of Swedish Lapland staying at the family run Ripan Cabin Hotel with a better than evens chance of seeing the Northern Lights, a day mushing huskies and families and a choice of snow safaris to suit all ages
with our North facing cabins with views up towards the twin peaks of the Kekbnekaise mountains you’re chance of seeing the Aurora is well above the average and with luck you may see them on your first night having supper in the hotel’s special floor to ceiling glass walled Andrum room.
we include protective thermal clothing for all the family during your visit and if you want to see the nearby and legendary ICE HOTEL we’ll throw in a guided visit there free, gratis and for nothing.
fly high above the Arctic Circle to Kiruna gateway to Swedish Lapland where the Tornevalen lies on the border with Finland. Meet your guide, transfer to Ripan and settle in to your cabin. Begin your adventure with a 3 course supper themed around the Arctic Aurora accompanied by Northern Lights presentation which with the forest visible on the other side of the glazed walls of Andrum has an almost ‘son et lumiere’ effect.
a day of agonizing choices (in fact its best to do a bit of pre-planning before you go such is are the choices available). You can go hardcore and snowmobile up to towards the twin peaks of the Kebnekaisse massive, Sweden’s highest mountain; take it easy with a snow shoe trek through the birch and pine forest or ski on Luossavaara the city mountain with its 4 pistes including one for children. Or you can go out to the sami village of Rattas for a lunch of gahkku (bread) and suovas (smoked reindeer) in a Lavvu followed by a reindeer sled along a snow trail. Or out to Mats Berg and Kerstin Nilsson’s stables in Poultsa by the Kalix River for a ride on a 5 gaited Icelandic (sic) horse).
after breakfast travel a short distance to a local husky kennels where you will be introduced to the owner and more importantly his dogs (and perhaps even a puppy or two). After a short tuition in the musher’s art and with children safely tucked up under insulating reindeer hides on your other half’s lap you set off through the forest. Instantaneously the excited barking subsides and the only sound you hear is the swish of the birch sled’s runners slicing through the snow and the muted padding of the dog’s paws on the snow. En route you’ll stop for a cup of sooty coffee, flat bread and salmon. Invigorated or exhausted from your mushing re-charge your batteries and relax in the hotel’s Aurora spa before dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Guide prices are in part based on our mid-level contract air fares which are veriable in real time unlike our ground supplier contract costs which are generally fixed. We don’t do fancy lead in prices and the time you confirm your booking always use the lowest air fare available. This may mean the confirmed price of your holiday being slightly less or more than the guide price in which case a proportionate reduction-supplement will apply. Carpe Diem = the earlier you book the better, especially for public & school holidays.
