All Our Norway Holidays
The Flam Mountain Railway | Across the Roof of Norway

The Adventure

brief encounters with Oslo and Bergen linked by a journey over the ‘Roof of Norway’ : a rail journey over the Hardangervidda; a 20km descent from the mountain station at Myrdal on the Flam mountain railway; a 2 hour cruise along two of Norway’s narrowest fjords and a serpentine climb by bus up Stalheimskleiva for gob smacking views.

The Bergensbanen

one of the great rail lines of the world: the highest in Europe it climbs from Honnefoss just outside of Oslo up 4000 feet across the barren, snow flecked Hardangervidda.

Oslo & Bergen

Oslo belies its somewhat stuffy reputation. Has a plethora of cafes, bars and eateries along with testimony to its Viking heritage at the Viking ship museum. Bergen with its charming Hanseatic harbour sits Rome like in the embrace of its seven mountains. Bryggen, the medieval quayside and Troldhaugen are probably its best known attractions. The view from the top of Mount Fløyen is truly awesome.

The Grims Grenka

is an exception to the designer hotel genre, somewhere designed with the notion of an ambience for guests rather than the designer: and comfort, comfort, comfort. All 65 rooms are larger than 20m2 with Jensen beds ( pop down to Selfridge’s and try one out), Bang & Olufsen TV, personalized light controls which you can use without a degree from MIT and lots of other goodies. And if the weather’s good during your stay, the hotel has a roof lounge bar where you can grab a night cap.

Victoria Hotel

The wide sweep of the tiled floor reception and the atrium housing the restaurant signifies everything the Victoria is about: well executed efficiency. Just a ten minute walk from the station the spacious ( 20m2) superior rooms all have private WC/bath/shower along with TV, telephone, coffee making unit and a separate seating area.

Hotel Marin

set on the Bryggen quayside alongside Bergen’s old harbour the Marin is a touch of class in a perfect location Superior rooms are invariably styled in primrose yellow and sea blue with mahogany headboards and wing back patterned chairs. Lots of open brick work in the public areas gives everywhere a maritime warehouse look and feel including in the restaurant where breakfast is served. Everything you need to see and do here is literally on your doorstep.

Hotel Opera

just about the closest hotel to the rail station there is without being literally within its concourse as the Byporten is, so ideal if you want a simple clean place to hang your hat and a good buffet breakfast to start the day with. Standard doubles here have a private WC/shower or bathtub, hairdryer, toiletries, Free WI-FI, phone, mini-bar and TV. A does what is says on the tin hotel.

Augustin Hotel

the last privately owned hotel in central Bergen, the 4th generation Smørås family are keeping at their forefather’s work continually spreading out from the original art nouveau building ( most recently into a neighbouring cellar in which they’ve created a wine bar) into neighbouring buildings whilst holding on to the family’s tradition of hospitality with a twist. Both in the public areas and many of the rooms you’ll find Norwegian art and sculptures adding to your sense of being in Norway rather than a soulless chain hotel.

Hotel Park

less a hotel, more a home from home, the Park being in 2 one time residential buildings and family run by Anne Margrethe Klohs. The 35 rooms are all individually designed and furnished with an effortless elegance that throws together antiques, contemporary art and modern design in an eclectic mix only somebody with an eye can pull off. Little touches like homemade brownies being on tap in the evening and tea and coffee throughout the day all augment the feeling of staying with friends for the weekend. Further from the harbour than our other hotels but ideal if you want something a little different in a quit location.
