The Edge Hotel
on the edge of the harbour, with an edgy design and (probably) on the edge of displacing the Ishavshotel as the luxiest hotel in Tromso (enough puns), the Edge is the place for some serious tlc after the rigours of a day on safari, or a night out spotting the Northern Lights. Our upper level rooms have serious views out to the ocean or the mountains, are a good 24sq m with stylish charcoal grey, arctic blue, aurora green or fire red fabrics and furnishings. Perfectly located for our airport transfer & safaris pick up/drop off point and Storgata if you want some retail therapy at any point. Clients rave about the breakfast: the local produce used, the menu and the chef staffed waffle station.
The Hotel With is down close to the quayside in the city centre with Tromso Sound on one side and the city’s historic centre on the other. Close by are the Arctic Botanical gardens, Mack Brewery, Arctic Cathedral and several restaurants and bars. All 76 rooms have air conditioning, telephone, cable TV and private WC/shower. Wherever availablity allows we upgrade Clients to harbour view rooms. Trivia note: it's called the With after a Captain Richard With who started the Hurtigruten.

Guide prices are in part based on our mid-level contract air fares which are veriable in real time unlike our ground supplier contract costs which are generally fixed. We don’t do fancy lead in prices and the time you confirm your booking always use the lowest air fare available. This may mean the confirmed price of your holiday being slightly less or more than the guide price in which case a proportionate reduction-supplement will apply. Carpe Diem = the earlier you book the better, especially for public & school holidays.
Northern Lights Spotting
escape the city’s urban lighting out at the Tromso Villmarkssenter where in between spells lying on reindeer skins staring skywards for the Northern Lights, you can enjoy the warmth of a Sami Lavvo’s open fire around which you can grill sausages and sip hot local berry juice. In between aurora sightings you can also visit the centre’s husky kennels and/or have an optional traditional supper of Bidos (stewed reindeer). Departs from Radisson SAS Hotel at 1815hrs. 4 hours – 3 hours at Villmarkssenter £65pp.
Blue Light Cruise
cruise in Tromsø Sound and catch surrounding landscapes in the clear blue light of an Arctic afternoon on board the custom built catamaran ‘Havcruise’. See the island of Sammaroy on one side and the majestic Lyngen Alps on the other. Departs from the harbour quayside close to Hotel With at 1330 (Oct 1st to Nov 26th & Jan 2nd to March 31st) or 11.00 Nov 27th – Jan 2nd).2 hours £129pp.
Northern Lights Search
our trip is as close to an Aurora guarantee as we can give. Our local guide picks you up from the city centre at 18.30 hrs. and, depending on the level of cloud cover, heads North to a spot with the Atlantic to one side of you and the LyngenAlps the other or East as far as the Finnish border. The emphasis is firmly on hunting Aurora where they are most likely to occur, so the trip can last for anything up to 8 hours. During the evening you move location two or three times to provide different backdrop settings, avoid light pollution and hunt out the best aurora experience. Ideal for photographers whatever their competence, we provide tripods and our guide helps you with your camera settings to produce memorable shots. We provide thermal suits, hand warmer, hot meal and drinks. NB We point out in this litigious age that we use the word ‘guarantee’ here as a simile for ‘best chance you can get’. Departs from Radisson SAS Hotel at 18.30. 6-8 hours £170pp
mush your own team of huskies, or be pulled in a sled, alongside Tromso’s indented coastline in snow covered terrain framed by mountains with ever present wildlife to keep an eye out for. When your mush is over you can visit the kennels where depending on the time of year there may be some cute puppies to cuddle. Hotel pick-up (0945hrs or 1815hrs) protective thermal clothing and light meal of bidos (reindeer stew), cake and coffee served in a traditional lavvu (Sami tent) included. 3½ hours £185pp.
through the Finn valley along a 15km trail from Camp Tamok (a commune of Sami tents and hospitality cabin) to Lake Tamok where you can try your hand at ice fishing. Driving in pairs you can swap round half way so each person can drive. The contrast between tundra, lake and mogul like terrain provides the ultimate snowmobile experience from speeding to crawling. A hot meal round an open fire in nomadic Sami style is served en-route. Rica Ishavshotel pick-up at 0930hrs or 1700hrs, transfers to Camp Tamok, protective clothing and ‘Davy’ helmet and hot meal. 7 hours (4½ hours at Camp Tamok) £189pp.
explore the spectacular winter landscape of Tromso’s surrounds, on a self-guided trek trip. We supply you with snowshoes, an easy to read map of the area and suggested routes. You’ll catch sight of the fjords surrounding Tromsø and perhaps get a close look at some Arctic Wildlife. Coffee brewed over an open fire Norwegian style with lefse (traditional flatbread) rounds off the day. Pick up from Radisson SAS Hotel at 0945hrs. 3½ hours £65pp Price per person £86 (5-course dinner), wine menu to accompany the dinner £60 per person.
Arctic Feast Treat
with a sort of Rick Stein like following & reputation locally Anne Brit Andreassen’s ‘Emma’s Drommekjokken ( Dream Kitchen) is an Arctic treat dishing up grilled scallops with parmesan, pepper-roasted king crab, cod Carpaccio, whale sushi, reindeer fillet and the like. The restaurant is opposite the old cathedral with the ‘Dream’ kitchen in the upper half of the building traditionally furnished with button back chairs and tables set with crystal glasses and china tableware. The gastronome meal runs to 5 or 6 courses and is a surprise menu based on what’s good in the markets that day. PS Rumour has it that Norwegian gourmets visit Tromsø, they reserve a table at Emma’s before booking a flight.
