Snowmobiling by the Shores of Lake Inari | ScanAdventures

Your Adventure

A 7 Day Holiday at the New Inari Wilderness Lodge, Jouko and Mari Lappalainen’s latest venture in Luxury Hospitality in the mystical homeland of the Sami people. The Lodge has 12 Aurora Cabins, 40 Wilderness Rooms and 8 Log Cabins all fitted out & furnished by Mari with her very personal Sami touches in fabrics & furnishings and a restaurant using locally sourced ingredients .From here you can mush your own team of huskies along the shores of the eponymous lake, snowmobile across tundra, frozen lakes and along forest trials and sled with reindeer on the family owned Inari Reindeeer Farm and take berry juice with a perhaps a Joik or two. Inari is universally credited with being an arboreal oasis of peace and tranquillity (OK, quiet and natural if you’re not in to poetry) with the natural corollary of lacking any commercialism – no plastic, slightly dysfunctional WI-FI (why do you want it anyway),

1st Day UK – Lapland Aurora Spotting

fly to Ivalo in Finnish Lapland via Helsinki OR DIRECT from London Gatwick, transfer to Inari and check in to your cabin at the Inari Wilderness Lodge. Supper in the hotel with a walk afterwards, down to the lake’s edge for an inaugural sighting of the Northern Lights (possibly, hopefully, maybe!)

2nd Day Snowmobile Safari & Aurora Spotting

After breakfast [RECOMMENDED SAFARIS SUPPLEMENT PAYABLE]meet up with your local guide for an instructional and safety briefing on the art of snowmobiling. Once ready, set off for a 40 km safari through arboreal forests, over frozen lakes, along marked trials with a stop en route for some ice fishing and an al fresco snack lunch round an open fire. Return to the hotel in the early afternoon for a warm up and some R & R. After supper set off for one of Juoko’s aurora camps where he stores berry juice, snacks and booze and keeps a look out for the Northern Lights.

3rd Day Husky Safari & Aurora Spotting

After breakfast [RECOMMENDED SAFARIsS SUPPLEMENT PAYABLE] meet up with Matti and his dog pack for a mush in pairs along trails in the surrounds of Lake Inari. Your musher will show you how to balance on a sled, use the brake, steer, and generally handle your own dog team whilst explaining the role of the lead, swing, team and wheel dogs. Once you’re team is laced up their barking falls silent leaving only their vapour breath signatures and the whooshing sound of your birch wood sleigh’s runners slicing thought the snow. After a two hour or thereabouts safari you’ll have a chance to cuddle your dogs back at the kennels before lunch in the lodge’s restaurant. R& R in the afternoon.

4th - 7th Day Design Your Own Safari Adventures

After breakfast take off on your chosen safari or just watch the day go by. You can snowmobile some 15km over to Armi Palanoja’s reindeer corral, learn to lasso one, take a short sleigh ride through the ‘can’t hear a pin drop’ snowscape and over some soothing salmon soup hear something of a traditional herders' life before sowmobiling back to the Lodge. You can take another snowmobile safari across mogul littered tundra, alongside ice covered lakes and along the winding forest trails of the Urho Kekkonen National Park; the ultimate 'boy's toy' adventure your snowmobile day runs to about 4 hours of adrenaline pumping snow scooting broken only by an al fresco light lunch over an open fire.To complete the agony of choice you can also snow shoe or cross country ski with a guide over to Kiilopaa with its staggering views over Saariselka Fjell.

*Guide prices are in part based on our mid-level contract air fares which are variable in real time unlike our ground supplier contract costs which are generally fixed. We don’t do fancy lead in prices and at the time you confirm your booking always use the lowest air fare available. This may mean the confirmed price of your holiday being slightly less or more than the guide price in which case a proportionate reduction/supplement will apply. Carpe Diem = the earlier you book the better, especially for public & school holidays.
After supper set off for your second Northern Lights Safari in a fashion unique to us: in a snowmobile powered open topped heated (sic) sledge. Whiz around Lake Inari with your local guide stopping at what (or she) knows to be the best viewing points with a stop en-route for an Arctic al Fresco supper around an open fire.
