1st Day UK - Iceland

Fly to Keflavik International Airport from the UK, small group (max 16pax) transfer to the Hotel Midgardur or similar. Do your own thing in the evening: we're more than happy for you to give us a VIVA on what's in and what's not.

2nd Day Sagas & Hot Springs

After breakfast, your adventure begins with a short tour of the city, taking in the Harpa Concert Hall, Hallgrimskikja Church, the old town and new edgy harbour district before travelling north west under the Hvalfjordur (Whale Bay) to Borgarfjordur, Stop at Reykholt home to medieval chieftain and Saga writer Snorri Sturluson before stopping at Europe's most powerful hot spring Deildartunguhver and Krauma, a new natural geothermal bath resort. Relax in their soothing “fire and ice” baths blended from Deildartunguhver’s pure hot spring water and pristine glacier water. Continue to Hraunfossar, not so much a waterfall as a collection of them: rivulets seeping out from the Hallmundarhraun lava field and trickling in to the Hvita river and, in the author's opinion, the most dramtic waterfalls in Iceland. End the day at Barnafoss before supper at the Hotel Hamar and an evening search for the Northern Lights. ,

3rd Day Stykkisholmur & Snaefellsnes Peninsula

Take breakfast in your hotel before leaving for Stykkisholmuror and sailing out into Breidafjordur Bay for a Viking Sushi of scallops, urchins and crab trawled up on to the boat. Continue along the peninsula's rugged coastline to the 'hidden' fishing village of Grundarfjordur nestling beneath Kirkjufell Mountain where the surrounding fjord teems with herring and Orca. Next up is Arnarstapi with its basalt columnar rocks and bird cliffs before continuing through the Snaefellsnes National Park's lava fields, pebbled beaches and of course the Snaefellsjokull. Return to your hotel for another Northern Lights search if the previous evening's has been unsuccesful.

4th Day Golden Circle

After breakfast set off with our local guide through the Thingvellir Valley where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are gradually separating at a rate of a few centimetres per year. En-route you'll pass the Alþingi where the early Icelandic settlers gave up rape ands pillage in favour of parliamentary democracy before arriving at Geysir where Strokkur, the great geyser shoots a column of water up to 30 metres (98 ft.) into the air every 5- 10 minutes. Continue to Gullfoss (Golden Falls) flowing from the Hvítá river and plunging into a crevice some 32 m (105 ft.) deep and whipping itself into a white foam maelstrom as it does. Then it's to Friðheimar a uniquly Icelandic combination of tomato greenhouse farm and horse stable run by agronomist Knútur Rafn Ármann & his wife horticulturalist Helena Hermundardóttir helped out by their five children: Dóróthea, Karítas, Matthías Jens, Arnaldur and Tómas Ingi. Return to Reykjavik and the Hotel Midgardur for the night.

Guide prices are in part based on our mid-level contract air fares which are variable in real time unlike our ground supplier contract costs which are generally fixed. We don’t do fancy lead in prices and the time you confirm your booking always use the lowest air fare available. This may mean the confirmed price of your holiday being slightly less or more than the guide price in which case a proportionate reduction-supplement will apply. Carpe Diem = the earlier you book the better, especially for public & school holidays.
