- GUIDE PRICE £1390pp
A 5 Day holiday high up over the Arctic Circle in a privately owned villa surrounded by 'crystal' lavvos in the quiet snow and the empty vastness of the Lyngen Alps. Marked by soaring peaks, and clear dark nights that show a trillion more stars than you’d ever see from a city, Tromso & The Lyngen Alps are right bang in the middle of what’s known as the Aurora Arc; the latitudinal span either side of the Arctic Circle best for spotting the Northern Lights. And for R & R Tromso is a Uni city with a mix of traditional weatherboard buildings and uber modern ones such as the Arctic Cathedral and Polaria Museum, lots of fun bars and restaurants with seafood to die for.
Francesco's House is by a fjord in the foothills of the Lyngen Alps facing north west for maximum Aurora viewing. Rooms in the villa have Jensen beds, a coffee grinder or you can stay in one of his more rudimentary glass roofed igloos with a wood burning stove and outside loos just a couple of metres away. Matresses and bedding are the same as in the house.
The Hotel With is down close to the quayside in the city centre with Tromso Sound on one side and the city’s historic centre on the other. Close by are the Arctic Botanical gardens, Mack Brewery, Arctic Cathedral and several restaurants and bars. All 76 rooms have air conditioning, telephone, cable TV and private WC/shower. Wherever availablity allows we upgrade Clients to harbour view rooms. Trivia note: it's called the With after a Captain Richard With who started the Hurtigruten.
fly direct to Tromso in Northern Norway, transfer to the city centre and check in at the Hotel With (or similar).
After breakfast meet our local guide who will drive you to the Lyngen Alps, provide your special clothing (warm suits, boots, mittens and helmets) and take you on a 2 hour Snowmobile Safari alongside the beautiful Lyngen Fjords & up in to the Alps. Afterwards take lunch and choose between snowshoeing and cross-country skiing or just relax in your private Crystal Lavvo. In the early evening there will be short Aurora photography workshop over supper during which you will be given specialist gear & tripods, and taught how best to take Northern Lights pictures. And afterwards you put theory in to practice with a photographic Northern Lights Chase. Overnight in private lavvo.
After a breakfast of scrambled eggs & salmon head back to the city first made famous as a trading port for hunters and trappers and latter as the starting point for Amundsen, Nobile & Nansen’s expeditions to the North Pole. Overnight at Hotel With.
Begin your day's adventure on the Fjellheisen cable car which whisks you to the top of Mount Storsteinen more than 400 metres above the city for a gob smacking panoramic view of the city and its adjacent islands. Take a light lunch at the middle station’s Fjellstua Café before the 4 minute ride back down to the Arctic Cathedral; walk through the historical Skansen area close to the Polar museum and visit the iconic Arctic Cathedral. In the evening, chase the Northern Lights with your own husky team with the night's silence disturbed only by the sound of the dogs.
Check out of your hotel late morning and transfer to Langnes airport for your return flight back to the UK.

Guide Price £1390 pp
Guide prices are in part based on our mid-level contract air fares which are variable in real time unlike our ground supplier contract costs which are generally fixed. We don’t do fancy lead in prices and at the time you confirm your booking always use the lowest air fare available. This may mean the confirmed price of your holiday being slightly less or more than the guide price in which case a proportionate reduction-supplement will apply. Carpe Diem = the earlier you book the better, especially for public & school holidays.
Catch the Aurora over Tromso Sound sailing on the privately owned purpose built catamaran 'Havcruise' with the island of Sammaroy on one side and the Lyngen Alps on the other. Departs from the floating jetty alongside the Ishavshotel at 20.30hrs. 3 hours £149pp includes hot drinks, homemade traditional fish meal, waterproof poncho, tripod, services of guide.
