Holidays at country hotels - famous for their gourmet kitchen

The Adventure

A Drive & Discover Foodies Adventure kicking off in Copenhagen and then driving Sweden’s eastern seaboard taking in some of Sweden’s most idyllic scenery including the island of Oland before rounding off your trip in Stockholm.

Food to Die For

Long before New Nordic became a craze, many Swedish hoteliers with Country Manor House hotels championed local produce and artisan producers. Today what they do is culinary chic but for them the world’s just caught up.

Sweden’s Eastern Seaboard

The island of Oland is Sweden’s summer answer to Cornwall’s Rock with families having cottages there and the Royal Family an Italianate villa. And off the coast the Baltic shimmers in the afternoon sun and the coastline is peppered with inlets large and small.

Andersen Hotel

The hotel’s somewhat ordinary exterior masks a super chic interior which Karen Nedergaard Svendsen has created using furnishings and fabrics designed by Trisha Guild to which she has added her own minimalist Danish style. Designated the room categories as Cool, Brilliant, Wonderful & Amazing each comes in two colour themes; Princess with purple & fuchsia and Mermaid in turquoise & lime. All have a private WC/shower, safe deposit box, mini fridge which you can stock yourself & telephone.

Karlaby Kro

Built a clutch of white washed farm buildings turned into a Kro or Inn, Karlaby has just 24 rooms, two restaurant areas and a spa. The rooms are all individually styled and there is a swimming pool in one of the original stable blocks. The restaurant focuses on local sourced seasonal ingredients (asparagus, berries, cheese, eggs, etc. from local nearby artisan suppliers) to which they give as they put it ‘a Mediterranean twist’.

Halltorps Gastgiveri

Just south of Borgholm overlooking Kalmarsund, the hotel dates back to the 16th century and has long enjoyed a ‘full on’ reputation with Swedish Foodies. There are 15 rooms in the Mansion all recently renovated whilst retaining their original style and 26 known as Province rooms all of which have been decorated and fitted out by craftsmen from 26 different counties. All have private WC/shower, flat screen TV, telephone and radio and of course each has a completely different style creating a uniquely Swedish style. The restaurant sources produce from the island and close by on the mainland wherever possible.

Miss Clara

on Sveavagen which dissects Norrmalm bang in the middle of the city, Miss Clara is the newest hotel from hospitality group Nobis. The rooms with their herringbone parquet framing the bed heads and on the floor, limestone bathroom surfaces, 'Bed Factory' beds with Egyptian cotton sheets, give Stockholm Syndrome a whole new meaning. Of course they’re also fitted out with everything you’d expect from a Nobis hotel, and the toiletries by Orla Kiely, bathrobes and slipper just add to the very special feel of the place.

Hotel Reisen

A classic hotel dating back to the 18th century famed for its unique location on the water's edge in Gamla Stan (The Old Town). A special feature here is the sauna on the hotel's top floor from where you have staggering views out over the city. All 144 rooms are elegantly furnished with trad drapes, mahogony wood facings and lots of exposed brick work lending everything a maritime feel. Each has a private WC/shower/bath, TV, mini bar, telephone, hair dryer and safe.
